Fishing Near Anacapa Island

Sunday morning my husband left to go fishing with neighbor Dean and two other buddies. The plan was to head out toward Anacapa Island and fish the area for whatever they could get. Their main quarry, however was the Pacific spiny lobster.

A couple of years ago Dean brought some home that he'd caught and they were the absolute best lobster I have ever eaten, and that includes fresh Maine lobster! I was excited and just knew we'd be having the freshest lobster for dinner Monday night.
The guys caught just about everything but lobsters. Their catch included mackerel (above photo), this strange crab (below, under and top views -- channel clinging crab?).

Here's a bat ray.
Since they were there and the fishing wasn't great anyway, they decided to visit Anacapa Island. Here's a view from the island back towards the boat and the dingy.
Some of buildings on the island.

The lighthouse.

Rather desolate.
As the guys headed for home they were accompanied by a large pod of dolphins.
And finally Platform Gina.
So while they didn't do so well with the fishing, or lobstering, at least they had a good time.

PS--they let the crab and ray go.

Well, it looked like a beautiful day on the Pacific. Too bad no lobster, though.

Thanks for sharing.
