Graduation

This is the month full of graduations. Carli graduated from Maric College after her studies to become a Dental Assistant. The ceremony was held on Saturday at the Park At Riverwalk in the Brighthouse Amphitheater (pictured above).

I'm not sure what the organizers were thinking, but the venue was obviously outdoors, it was at 10:00 in the morning, and it was one of the hottest days of the week. In fact, the news reported the first heat related casualty of an oilfield worker. In addition we personally experienced our first heat casualty--two of our quails expired.

But on to the graduation!

There were lots of awards handed out: perfect attendance, perfect grades, most inspirational, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah.

Then came the speakers. One from each of the heads of the classes graduating that day (fortunately there were only three), the admissions lady, a guest speaker from Kaplan University, and then all the student speakers. I don't know why they felt the need to have the ten or more student speakers giving speeches. My eyes were glazed over and my head was roasted before the fifth student was finished. And all the speeches were the same: how I overcame my adversity (that would be being a single mom with five children!!) to better my life by attending Maric College. More blah blah blah.

The students and faculty.
Finally it was time to walk across the stage and get the "certificate" (actually a fake paper--they get the real one later).

Waiting to walk across the stage.Receiving her "certificate". The yellow ropes mean "Honor Student".

Now comes the fun part: Finding a JOB!

PS--the "UFO" from Saturday's post was indeed a runaway mylar balloon!
