New Year's Day At CALM

On New Year's Eve my daughter had to work and my husband did not, so we packed up the baby and headed for CALM. That stands for CAlifornia Living Museum and is our local zoo of sorts. It holds animals that are native to California and the inhabitants have been injured and rehabilitated and/or for whatever reason are unable be returned to the wild.

Since half the animals are nocturnal I wasn't able to get a lot of the animals, but here are a few.

Kit fox.
Red fox.
Bald eagle.
Badger. (We don't need no stinkin' badgers!)
Black tailed mule deer. This is a good picture showing why it's called a mule deer.
Raccoon.
Another bald eagle.
Bobcat.
At her favorite, the mule deer enclosure.

I think she had a good time!

What a cutie she is. Great pictures too. What kind of camera do you use?

Hannah just loves the animals, but at our closest "zoo" (actually some sort of wildlife preserve) doesn't have a very good selection and you cannot see the animals as close as you guys could.

I am absolutely jealous of how close you guys can get to the mule deer. Aren't they just the sweetest things?

The camera is a Nikon D40X. I really like it cause it makes everything pretty easy.

The mule deer were so nice. As you can see they'd come right up to the fence and lick your fingers. I think that's why she liked them so much.

One of the things I didn't take pictures of were the snakes, or "nakes", as the baby calls them. It was funny cause she liked them and her mother hates them with a passion!

I will have to write that camera down and take a look at them when I go to Walmart etc and look at the digital cameras.

I just LOVE snakes and Kyle hates them! Hannah likes all reptiles/amphibians etc. She even get's upset when I smash spiders, she tells me that I am supposed to put them in jars for her, not smash them...lol! You got some great pictures though!
