Back To Blogging

Things have begun to settle down a bit so I thought I might try and catch up on my blogging.

My granddaughter's birthday was November 15th and we had a little party at our house.

Here she is with the next door neighbor's daughter and my son's girlfriend. She seems to be eying the gifts and I can just imagine her thinking, "Enough of the pictures already! Let's get on with it!"
So we got on to the opening of the presents. She got the jewelry she is wearing along with this lovely makeup kit.
And the requisite clothing from Grandma.

When it came time for the cake she suddenly became embarrassed when we started singing "Happy Birthday". Her mom, on the right, was trying hard not to laugh out loud.
But with Grampa's and Mom's help the candles were blown out and everyone enjoyed a piece of cake.
Being three is so tough!

October First

I'm trying to upload a few photos and Blogger is giving me some fits. I'll have to try that later.

First off, a late Happy Birthday to my son. He turned 20 yesterday. And lest you think I'm a really bad mother, I did wish him Happy Birthday yesterday, I just didn't blog yesterday.

So Wednesday I was feeling a little blue because we hadn't gotten any calls to see the house all week. I think I didn't even bother to do the basic pick up. I decided that a ride on my horse would do me good and I was right. I had a great ride.

That evening our realtor called and said she had heard that one couple would be writing an offer after they did some other paperwork. So that made me cautiously happy.

Thursday was my son's birthday, but we didn't really have any plans made for that. He's barely ever home anymore so I kind of figured he'd be with his girlfriend anyway. And my husband and I had made plans two weeks ago to go to Cambria with our friends. Vicki and I planned to leave on Thursday at about 4pm and our husbands were going to go the next afternoon.

Thursday at 2:30 our realtor called and said some people wanted to see the house around 3:30 but she wanted to check with me first since I usually tell her 4pm is better. I let her know that 3:30 was actually better that day. I immediately started cleaning up. Usually I have several hours notice and I like to finish with an hour to spare rather than starting with an hour to go til show time.

At least I had made our bed but now I had to race around making my son's bed and pick up his room (I know, I know...). Then I had to clean the sinks and tub in the bathrooms, empty the trash cans, vacuum and sweep, clean the stove top, wash the dog smudges off the windows, pull my car out of the garage (to show off the built-in cabinets better), open the shop building roll-up door, put the dogs out in the side yard, spray the Febreeze in all the rooms, and finally turn on all the lights (I had read on the internet that your house shows better when it's totally lit up and I think it's true).

At about 3:20 I was almost done when I saw a car pull up out front. By this time I was totally dripping sweat everywhere. My face was literally dripping and my shirt was soaked. I quickly ran back to change into a dry shirt. I checked everything to make sure I hadn't forgotten anything and was satisfied.

The realtor knocked on the door and I showed him around real quick when his clients pulled up. It was a husband, wife, and their couple of kids. After the usual house walk through and look around the back area they came back and the husband asked a few questions. He seemed very enthusiastic and in all it seemed a positive experience. But as always, time will tell...

By this time Vicki and already pulled up and after the people left I ran back through the house turning all the lights off. I let the dogs back into the house and we loaded up my bags into her car and took off.

So here I am in Cambria right now and we are just waiting for our husbands to show up (it's now 4:30 pm). We already went for a walk this morning and just got back from the Farmer's Market. I think we are having calamari for dinner tonight. I got strawberries, orange honey, and honey glazed almonds and I have an idea for dessert.

Life is good!

Birthday

Today is my husband's birthday. Yesterday our daughter went to the mall and got him a pack of balloons (complete with rude writing), a glass beer boot (1 liter capacity!), and a six pack of Modelo beer in a rude bag. I got him the flowers.

Happy Birthday, dear!

Sugar High

Sunday was the baby's second birthday. We decided to make cupcakes instead of a big cake. This isn't going to be a recipe because we used a box. We did end up making our own frosting, but it was a simple cream cheese frosting.

The baby was clean when we started, but as you can imagine, we let her "help" and she wasn't clean for long.

Mixing the batter.
Making sure it's good.
It is!
Here she is blowing on the cupcakes to help cool them so we can frost them.
Like I said, we made a simple cream cheese frosting and split the batch in two. One was colored with neon purple and the other with a neon green.
Helping with the clean up.
And here she is helping with the decorations.
Granpa Mario stopped by with a gift. He took a bunch of photos and here she is admiring one of them.
The finished cupcakes.
Since Granpa Mario was there we went ahead and sang Happy Birthday.
Granpa Mario had to leave then and we decided to go ahead and open presents, since it was still too early for dinner. Here she is looking into the bag he brought.
She got cool new boots and a sweatshirt from him.
From us she got two new books, some hair clips,
and a nice warm winter jacket for the chillier days.
Then we finally had the cupcakes.
Of course by this time she already had quite the sugar rush going so this was really the last thing she needed, but oh well, it was her birthday! And besides, she wasn't spending the night at our house (ha ha!).

All in all I'd say we had a very successful second birthday party for our baby!

The Start Of The Terrible Twos?

Today was the baby's second birthday and we made cupcakes for desert and my husband made chili relenos for dinner. I'll post the cupcake pictures tomorrow and the chili releno recipe the next day.

Happy Birthday, Baby Girl! We you!

Birthday!

Happy Birthday to my favorite son!

Today's birthday menu will be his favorite, pork "wienerschnitzel", spaetzle, and a nice Caesar salad, followed by vanilla ice cream and strawberry shortcake bar cake (that's what the label says!).

I've been falling a little behind on the blogging. I'm going to Cambria tomorrow with my friend Vicki and hopefully I'll be able to catch up a little, especially now that I have a laptop I can take with me! ☺

Til then!

Birthday

Sunday was the day we came home from our vacation and it was also Carli's birthday. I'll talk more about the vacation later. Today I just wanted to make the mention of my daughter's 21st birthday and share some pictures. These are of the baby, of course.

I think she enjoyed the ice cream and cake more than any of the rest of us!

I know there were some other birthdays I missed while we were away so happy birthday to you all, You Know Who You Are!

More on vacation later. I have to try and get back in the groove of being back home. Adios for now!

Birthday

Happy Birthday to my sister, MT, the cheesemaker!

I just tried finding an official name for a person who makes cheese (ie: beekeeper=apiarist; sheep herder=shepherd; person who raises animals=rancher; etc.). Apparently a cheesemaker is just that: a person that makes cheese. So no fancy names, sorry!

So HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MT!!!!
